How does one remain strong when someone is so ill in their family?

February 10th, 2009 by admin

I feel like i am losing my mind. My mom is 2 hours away from me in the hospital. (She has portal hypertension and had a blood clot taken off her brain 2 days ago)
She is out of the I.C.U but she threw up some blood just a while ago and i talked to the nurses at the hospital and they said it was old blood.
(She had tubes down her throat and nose the other day, maybe the blood came from that or maybe where she ate just a little bit (Ice Cream) and see she has not ate since friday because of what has happened.

I am home with my son, my husband is at work and my family is scattered about. I don't know what to do, i feel hopeless and i am so scared.
What can i do if anything to feel just a little less torn up?
(I took a nerve pill but it isn't helping or i must be keeping it from helping)
I have prayed and prayed

I feel horrible for you. There is nothing worse than having a family member so ill, especially your mother. Is there someone who can take your son for a few days…can your husband take a few days off work. I feel like you should be at your mother's side. I think you feel hopeless b/c you're not there with her but I know they won't let children around the ICU.

In the meantime, continue to breathe deeply and meditate. Just take life one day at a time. See if you can get to the hospital. Call on your friends for help with childcare if Dad can't get off work.

I'll be praying for you both…take care!

What is your nursing home story?

February 10th, 2009 by admin

I am researching the nursing home dilemma. Having worked in one I have seen first hand what a nightmare they can be. If you don’t mind sharing, I would love to hear what you have to say. Please be serious about this and truthful. If you wish to e-mail me, do so by using the link. Thanks so much in advance.

My senior neighbor fell and was placed in a home by daughter after wife passed. I bought a lot of his private personal belongings Paintings a Grandfather Clock and so forth. I then returned them to him with the promise that I would get them upon his demise. Wrong. They virtually starved him and when he did pass I was never notified. When I stopped by I was told he had passed and my belongings were absent.

Hope this helps.

How do I get started pursuing a career in nursing? How does it work if I already have bachelors in dif field?

February 10th, 2009 by admin

What are some reputable resources or links on how to get started, programs, scholarships, and financial aid

Okay your BA degree you can use or transfer some of your credits over to the Nursing program different colleges require different courses to be taken. If you go to your local hospital that you want to work at they could give you a scholarship if you agree to work for them 2 to 7 years after you graduate. I plan to use some of the credits I got in Medical Assisting degree so I can go to community college and for the 2 year or associate degree which won’t cost to much I think less than $14,000 for all the courses needed which I could try to get grants, or sign something with a hospital and have them pay all expenses, or get students loans.

how is the work of nurses linked to social capital?

February 10th, 2009 by admin

could you elaborate please!!
well basically im writing an essay and the title of it is 'discuss the concept of social capital and its relevance to clinical nursing' and was basically just looking for a bit of help!

The nurse provides the compassion and care that the person needs. She is the link the patient needs to other resources. The nurse cares for anyone regardless of race ,color or creed. The nurse is concerned with the whole person. The nurse takes their income and education into consideration when caring for the patient.
